Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing
Instrumental swallowing evaluations are essential to determining safety and treatment plans when treating dysphagia or swallowing difficulties. FEES is one of two gold-standard assessments with the other being Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) also known as VFSS, Videofluroscopic Swallow Study.
Mobile FEES brings a gold‑standard instrumental assessment right to you!
Care that comes to you — We can show up wherever your patients are: homes, clinics, or facilities. Accessible care with no travel or complicated scheduling.
Instant clarity for confident decisions — With real‑time visualization, referring clinicians can spot aspiration, residue, and structural concerns on the spot, making same‑day recommendations a breeze.
Precision that elevates outcomes — Bedside swallowing exams are limited to outward signs of struggle. Mobile FEES captures details helping you deliver truly personalized, high‑quality dysphagia care.
Safe, gentle, and radiation‑free — Perfect for medically fragile patients, FEES avoids hospital trips and fluoroscopy exposure while still providing exceptional diagnostic insight.
Smart savings for patients and facilities — Reduce cost used for transportation and staff chaperone and time spent with patients out of regular therapy programming and enjoy a cost‑effective alternative to traditional MBSS — all while maintaining clinical excellence.
Care that meets patients where they are — Assess swallowing in the environment where eating actually happens, ensuring recommendations are practical, realistic, and easy to follow.
Team collaboration — Studies coordinated with treating SLP present to increase patient comfort and provide real-time feedback during the study.
Better outcomes, brighter days — With objective data guiding treatment, patients are on the road to recovery with increased confidence and quality of life — and we love to see it!
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Orofacial myofunctional therapy is a mouthful — pun intended! Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) is a specialized therapy modality that retrains the muscles of the face, mouth, and tongue to improve breathing, swallowing, chewing, and speech.
Speech Pathologists are uniquely qualified to treat orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) as they can impact speech, swallowing, and facial muscles.
Myofunctional therapy is tailored to each patient and their individual needs.
Personalized assessment — Every “myo” journey begins with a thorough evaluation to understand breathing, swallowing, speech, and oral‑rest posture.
Fun, targeted exercises — SLPs guide patients through engaging activities that strengthen lips, tongue, cheeks, and jaw muscles retraining muscle compensations along the way. Think of it as a joyful workout for the face!
Breathing pattern training — Gentle coaching helps patients shift from mouth breathing to healthy nasal breathing, boosting overall wellness and energy.
Tongue‑rest posture coaching — Awareness of tongue placement and home position is addressed, supporting clearer speech, better swallowing, and improved dental development.
Swallowing retraining — Step‑by‑step guidance helps patients learn a safe, efficient swallow pattern that feels natural and comfortable. Myofunctional therapy directly deals with the oral stage of the swallow.
Habit elimination (with encouragement!) — SLPs support patients in reducing thumb‑sucking, nail‑biting, or other oral habits with positive, empowering strategies.
Speech clarity enhancement — By improving muscle coordination and oral posture, SLPs help speech sound production become smoother, clearer, and more confident.
Collaborative care for best results — SLPs often team up with dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, and other providers to ensure patients receive gold‑standard, whole‑person care.
Home exercise and progress tracking — Regular check‑ins keep treatment upbeat and motivating, celebrating every win — big or small.
Myofunctional therapy is recommended for children who are of a cognitive level who can engage and complete exercises given, around 5-6 and can be addressed with adults, as well.
For children under 5 struggling with mouth breathing, feeding problems, dysphagia, etc., feeding therapy from a trained SLP is recommended. There are many excellent feeding therapists in Texarkana!
